About the Role

RPO Recruitment's client, a leading civil engineering consulting firm, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Water and Sanitation Engineer or Technologist to join their team in Johannesburg.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and prepare preliminary and final plans for water and sanitation designs of bulk water networks, storm and flood water, sustainable hydrology design, pumps and pipeline design, pump station design, slurry design, sewer and sewage pump station design, urban drainage design, and water resource planning and management.
  • Ensure the estimation of project cost, drawing-up of contracts, and developing of specifications for labor, material, and equipment.
  • Develop preliminary engineering treatments to determine construction feasibility and estimated cost.
  • Prepare final layout drawings and stress calculations.
  • Recommend construction methods best suited to soil types encountered.
  • Discuss plans, specifications, and works schedules with contractors, utility companies, and other governmental agencies.
  • Ensure the survey, staking, layout, and inspection of construction projects.
  • Ensure the set-up of the project and project meetings.
  • Ensure project reviews, quality assurance, cost control, health and safety, and invoicing of the project.
  • Prepare a close-out report.
  • Compile a project budget and monitoring thereof to optimize cost savings and/or profit margins.
  • Apply and adhere to all quality management procedures.
  • Implement and monitor cost management measures.
  • Support, mentor, and guide junior and graduate engineers.
  • Water and sanitation engineering designs and plans.
  • Project and construction documentation.
  • Engineering investigations.
  • Project and cost monitoring.
  • Communication with stakeholders.
  • Set-up of construction and health and safety of the project.
  • Site monitoring.
  • Budgeting and cost management.
Requirements
  • BSc/BEng or BTech degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng registration with ECSA.
  • Over 8 years' experience in water and sanitation engineering consulting.
  • Experience in water and sanitation engineering design.
  • Experience in site-based work.
  • Knowledge of water and sanitation engineering design.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Projects, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HECRAS, EPANET, Model Maker, Surge Analysis Software, Civil Designer, and Stormwater Software.
  • Project management knowledge.
  • Business acumen.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Budgeting and cost management skills.
