As a Consulting Engineer - Electrical, you will play a key role in providing consulting engineering services and designing MV & LV power systems, single line diagrams, reticulation, generators, UPS, fire detection and evacuation, as well as Data, CCTV, access control, intruder and building management.

The role involves:

  1. Preparing accurate designs and design calculations, budgets, tender specification creation, project financial control, and diligent construction monitoring and project management throughout all stages of a project life cycle.
  2. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers on projects, taking an active part in the design process and co-ordination.
  3. Completing projects from inception to close out with limited input from management and/or other senior engineers.
  4. Focusing on client care and professional team management, including on-time delivery.
  5. Marketing efforts, including attendance at business-related networking functions, ensuring repeat work from clients and developing a client base.
  6. Setting up client/consultant fee agreements, calculating professional fees, and effectively managing professional fees on all projects.
  7. Managing internal office project finances, including hourly forecasting, WIP, and invoicing.

Key Competencies and Generic Skills:

  1. Excellent communication skills (English) and report writing abilities, with clear and accurate communication skills with internal and external professional teams and clients via email, telecommunication, and face-to-face meetings.
  2. Good knowledge of SANS10142-1&2, SANS10139, and SANS10114 among others.
  3. Knowledge of various building contracts applicable to the building services industry (i.e., JBCC, Fidic, NEC, Procsa, etc.).
  4. Good knowledge of MV and LV reticulation designs.
  5. Good knowledge of standby power systems, including changeovers, synchronising, and calculating ratings thereof.
  6. Knowledge and experience with Autodesk BIM (Revit, Navisworks, Glue, Field, etc.) and CAD software.
  7. Knowledge and experience with electrical software packages such as Relux and/or Dialux, CBi and/or Ecodial and/or Amtech.
  8. Higher than average Microsoft Office package skills (excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc.).
  9. Ability to work independently and take responsibility/ownership for designs with little input, and follow up from senior management/engineers.
  10. High-level quality to attention to detail when performing design reviews for sign-off with internal working peers and BIM team.
  11. Good self and project time-management skills.
  12. Good knowledge of the latest technologies within the building services industry (e.g., lighting, UPS, etc.).
  13. Self-motivated and ambitious, able to raise, suggest, and drive to office/internal efficiencies.
  14. Able to offer creative solutions to client, architectural, and/or interior design requirements.
  15. Able to interface professionally across all levels of the professional team and with the client, think on their feet, and remain calm when faced with a challenge/confrontation.
  16. Pro-active attitude.
  17. Ability to offer input with multiple engineering disciplines in project meetings.
  18. Good client marketing characteristics and including external project professional team members.
  19. Must be a team player and able to work independently on challenging projects that may have tight timelines.
  20. Driver's license and own mode of transport to travel to sites.
  21. Willingness and ability to travel within RSA and Africa.
