We are currently seeking a Project Manager in Johannesburg who is self-driven and focused on establishing Turner & Townsend as the leading consultancy in the industry. Reporting directly to the head of the business unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for project delivery, client acquisition, and upholding the values of Turner & Townsend.
Our workforce is our greatest asset, and as a Project Manager, you will join our Johannesburg Infrastructure team to provide services that assist our clients in formulating strategies for successful business solutions prior to project approval, ensuring effective project management and control, and facilitating knowledge transfer.
Role Responsibilities
Project Managers are tasked with overseeing commissions of varying scales and complexities, which includes providing guidance on specific project management functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Offering strategic counsel during the programme identification and definition phases, including guidance on developing the Programme Brief in relation to the Sub-programme/Workstream for which you are accountable, and exploring various approaches to achieve desired outcomes and align with the Client's strategic goals.
- Advising at a strategic level during the project conception phase, including providing insights on different methodologies to successfully meet the client's overall objectives.
- Assessing phasing, sequencing, and interdependencies among projects, along with the management and logistical arrangements necessary for successful Sub-programme delivery.
- Establishing the procurement strategy for the programme and confirming the availability of all resources required to meet the Client's specifications.
- Leading and directing project managers responsible for delivering projects within the Sub-programme, coordinating with the programme office, specialists, and, where applicable, Client staff.
- Defining the overall success criteria for the project, including time, cost, technical, and performance metrics.
- Planning and managing quality, safety, health, and environmental considerations.
- Establishing effective project governance, processes, and systems to be utilized throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensuring the creation of a detailed project plan.
- Advising on resource procurement.
- Leading and facilitating the cross-functional project team.
- Monitoring and applying performance management techniques, including the use of KPIs to enhance project performance.
- Managing the change control process.
- Overseeing project finances.
- Managing communication flow between the team and the client through regular meetings and written updates.
- Ensuring the production of formal project progress reports and other documentation.
- Taking a proactive role in interfacing with the client and other consultants at all project stages.
Business Development and Marketing
- Taking charge of developing new business opportunities with both existing and prospective Turner & Townsend clients.
- Identifying and acting on cross-selling opportunities.
- Collaborating with Associate Directors and Directors to prepare bids for new projects.
- Participating in formal client presentations alongside Assistant Directors and Directors.
- Ensuring that project case studies, photographs, and project CV files are maintained and updated.
- Identifying opportunities to enhance project management products and services.
Qualifications
- A degree in Construction Project Management or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- Preferably registered with a professional body as a Professional Project Manager.
- Demonstrated industry knowledge and exposure.
- A solid foundation in Programme Management principles and practical experience in enterprise programme management.
Additional Information
As a Project/Programme Manager, you will be responsible for various service streams, including Project Resourcing, Best Practices, Knowledge Management, Tools & Systems, Key Account Management, Service Opportunity Identification, and Service Development. You will actively promote the interests of Turner & Townsend, leveraging your knowledge, expertise, and skills in all business endeavors.
