Sagen Advisory is seeking an accomplished Senior Bookkeeper to be part of their team in Stellenbosch. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bookkeeping and accounting, preferably in an accounting firm environment. A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, and a tertiary degree or diploma in Finance or Accounting is essential. SAIPA, SAICA, or CIMA articles are a significant benefit, but not a necessity. The candidate should be familiar with Xero, SimplePay, or similar programs. They must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A valid driver's license and own transport are necessary for client visits. The remuneration package is R240,000 to R300,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Process bank and other entries on behalf of clients in the relevant financial software package.
  2. Perform various reconciliations (Bank, Salaries, Loan accounts, and Creditors) within the allocated due dates.
  3. Loading of creditor and other payments for approval or authorisation by relevant parties.
  4. Raising of debtor invoices where necessary.
  5. Allocating of expenses in correct categories.
  6. Maintenance of the fixed asset register and reconciling the assets to the general ledger.
  7. Ensure all financial expenses have the necessary supporting documentation.
  8. Calculation, completion, and submission of VAT201 returns. This includes preparing the reports necessary to communicate the VAT due to the relevant client.
  9. Filing of all supporting documents monthly.
  10. Generate management reports for review by the Accounting Manager.
  11. Preparation of trial balance suitable for compilation of annual financial statements as well as work to be performed by auditors.
  12. Process weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll.
  13. Submission of EMP201 returns.
  14. Calculation and submission of bi-annual EMP501 returns as well as the annual generation of IRP5 returns.
  15. Calculation and submission of annual COIDA returns.
  16. Company secretarial administration including timely submission of annual returns and beneficial ownership disclosures for different entity types at CIPC, registration and deregistration of companies, prepare and submit amendments to company secretarial information with CIPC.
  17. This role reports to the Accounting Manager.
  18. Understand and adhere to all company Policies & Procedures.
  19. Perform any other reasonable task required by the company.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary degree or diploma in Finance or Accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years bookkeeping and accounting experience in a firm environment.
  • Partial or completed SAICA, SAIPA or CIMA articles an added benefit, but not required.
  • Experience working on Xero & SimplePay would be advantageous.
