Job Title: Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist to join our dynamic team at Deka Minas (Pty) Ltd. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and implementing effective HSE policies and procedures across our machine shop environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE programs, policies, and procedures tailored to the unique challenges of our machine shop operations.
  • Lead and facilitate HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure a high level of awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and inspections of equipment, machinery, and work areas to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and maintenance, to ensure seamless integration of HSE considerations into daily operations.
  • Investigate and analyze incidents, accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, and develop detailed reports with actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, regional, and international HSE regulations and standards applicable to the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Monitor and track key HSE performance indicators, preparing regular reports for management to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Liaise with external regulatory agencies and industry partners as needed to ensure compliance and share best practices.
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness, ownership, and accountability among all employees, encouraging active participation in safety initiatives.
  • Oversee emergency response plans and drills, ensuring preparedness and effective execution in critical situations.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to assess HSE program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in HSE management, with a significant portion of that experience gained in a machine shop or related manufacturing environment.
  • NEBOSH certification (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing and managing HSE programs to improve safety performance and minimize risks.
  • Proficiency in using HSE management systems and software tools to track and report on key performance metrics.
  • Relevant professional certifications or memberships in HSE-related associations are desirable.
