Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Dental Assistant to join our team at Intercare Linden Medical and Dental Centre in Randburg, Johannesburg. The successful candidate will assist dental professionals in performing general and specialist dentistry procedures, as well as facilitate the patient administration process.
Key Responsibilities
- Work within the scope of practice and knowledge base to maintain competency level.
- Takes personal accountability for decisions made and actions taken in the course of care delivery.
- Ensure the dental room is hygienically acceptable and adheres to sterilization and infection control protocols.
- Assist dentist in all clinical procedures according to branch protocol.
- Coordinate laboratory work, including completion of lab slips, collection, returning, and casting.
- Control availability of consumables and equipment in the dental room, monitoring economical usage.
- Engage and address concerns brought to attention to provide safe dental practices.
- Ensure documentation is in accordance with policy and within the legal framework.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and safety at all times.
- Ensure disposal of medical waste, human tissue, and medicine is in accordance with legislation.
- Ensure efficient functioning of equipment, or report any equipment failure that could pose a risk to patients or staff.
Requirements
- Grade 12
- Completion of approved training course in dental assisting, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Previous experience in a customer-focused service environment will be advantageous.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office).
- Knowledge of general dentistry principles, practices, and procedures applied to assisting a dentist in patient treatment and care.
- Advanced knowledge of dental terminology.
- Basic understanding of the dental healthcare environment.
- Good knowledge and application of infection control principles and sterilization techniques.
- Knowledge of treatment codes used in dentistry for quotations of advanced dentistry treatment procedures.
- Specialized dental procedures.
- GoodX experience will be advantageous.
- Registered with HPCSA as Registered Dental Assistant.
