Job Title: Plant Maintenance Technician (Millwright)

We are seeking an experienced Plant Maintenance Technician (Millwright) to join our team. As a key member of our operations department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities by performing routine maintenance tasks, troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing preventative measures to minimize downtime.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance Process (Schedules Preventative Maintenance):
    • Receive maintenance schedules, plan, and execute tasks before they expire.
    • Inspect tooling and determine spares requirements.
    • Generate job requisitions for scheduled maintenance work.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance activities.
    • Perform changeovers in the production environment.
    • Stock take integrity checks.
    • All scheduled maintenance shall be recorded.
    • Perform plant start-ups, timeously.
    • Maintain good housekeeping.
  • Maintenance Process (Breakdown):
    • Attend to machine breakdowns of a mechanical/electrical nature for all equipment under engineering functional control.
    • Update the responsible person on progress of repairs.
    • Escalate a problem/breakdown to the next level if it cannot be resolved successfully.
    • All breakdowns shall be recorded to aid in determining root causes.
  • Mechanical Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance.
    • Align machines and equipment.
    • Diagnose and repair faults on equipment and machinery during production.
    • Commission and refurbish machines and equipment.
    • Operate and monitor drilling machines, lathes, milling machines, surface grinding machines, and EDM equipment.
    • Perform basic and MIG/TIG welding of metals.
    • Maintain mechanical equipment.
  • Electrical Maintenance :
    • Design and construct Single/Three Phase Circuits.
    • Design and install Electrical Wire Ways.
    • Construct, commission, and do fault tracing on low voltage reticulation networks.
    • Install or replace and commission electrical equipment.
    • Wire and commission three-phase electrical circuits.
    • Test and inspect a three-phase industrial/commercial installation.
    • Inspect and maintain electrical equipment.
    • Replace electrical equipment (electrical cables; faulty components in a distribution board; three-phase electrical motor between 5,5 kW and 75 kW).
    • Fault find and repair domestic appliances, single phase alternating current (AC) systems, and three-phase voltage electrical circuits.
    • Disconnect and connect electric motors.
    • Handle and care for electrical earthing gear and related equipment.
    • Joint low voltage cables.
    • Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers.
  • Fabrication:
    • Mechanically cut, drill, punch, and assemble fabrication materials using powered machinery.
    • Cut materials using the oxy-fuel gas cutting process.
    • Join metals using the resistance welding process.
    • Weld workpieces using oxy-acetylene welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding.
    • Remove metals using oxy-fuel and air-carbon arc gouging processes.
  • Instrumentation Maintenance:
    • Construct basic electronic circuits.
    • Install instrument impulse lines.
    • Maintain instrumentation equipment (Flow; Level; Pressure; Temperature; Intrinsically safe apparatus).
    • Carry out soldering and de-soldering procedures.
  • Maintenance Process (Post Maintenance):
    • Test and commission machinery or equipment prior to handover.
    • Complete the Planned Maintenance Schedule-Maintenance Connection.
    • Identify any other work required (including additional spares) and communicate to the Planner/Buyer.
    • Clean up after completion of job and inform the responsible person that the maintenance has been completed to the required standard.
  • Material Handling:
    • Handle sling loads, operate cranes/hoists, and operate forklifts.
  • Engineering Projects - Project Initiation:
    • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition, and scope change control and work as a valuable team member.
    • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub-project and monitor and control actual cost against budget.
  • Project Planning, Management, Administration:
    • Schedule project activities to facilitate effective project execution.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and communicate project schedules.
    • Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise.
    • Supervise a Project team of a technical project when requested.
    • Provide assistance within the project in the field of expertise.
    • Support project meetings and workshops when required.

Salary: R 250,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
