City Logistics is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join their team in Pinetown Workshop. As a key member of the workshop team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and efficiency of our diesel-powered equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Examine diesel-powered vehicles and machinery to identify mechanical issues and faults.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to assess engine performance and other components.
- Perform repairs on engines, transmission systems, fuel systems, exhaust systems, electrical systems, and other critical parts of diesel equipment.
- Replace faulty components, such as fuel injectors, fuel pumps, and turbochargers.
- Conduct routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns, including oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, brake servicing, and more.
- Run diagnostic tests to check for mechanical faults or performance issues.
- Ensure that all repairs restore equipment to optimal functionality.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and services performed, as well as parts and materials used.
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Technical certification or degree in diesel mechanics or related field.
- EC Driver's license with PDP.
- 3-5 years of experience in diesel mechanic work or a related field.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and associated components.
- Previous experience with diagnostic tools and software for engine performance analysis.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in diesel-powered equipment.
- Ability to work with welding equipment, hydraulic lifts, and other mechanical tools.
- Ability to lift heavy components and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Additional certifications in welding or hydraulics can be beneficial.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving complex engine or equipment failures.
- Ability to clearly explain technical information to non-technical clients or supervisors.
- Good documentation skills to maintain accurate service records.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and loud machinery.
- Must be physically fit to work in all these conditions.
