Job Title: Food Scientist

This role will report directly to the QA Manager and be responsible for the developmental processes of new product lines from market research until launch.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, improving and standardising current product recipes and processes, as well as researching new product and equipment opportunities, developing recipes, conducting analytical testing of products, and sourcing and approving raw materials.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Researching new product and equipment opportunities
  • Developing recipes and conducting analytical testing of products
  • Sourcing and approving raw materials
  • Accelerated and real-time shelf life studies of products
  • Drawing up packaging briefs and sourcing suitable packing materials
  • Liaising with suppliers, stores, and buyers
  • Assisting in product launch and supporting cross-functional teams
  • Managing product cost cutting, sensory evaluation, and reformulation and improvement of current products
  • Assisting in training a DSE panel and leading consumer tests and trials
  • Implementing and sustaining food safety system compliance in areas of control

Qualifications and experience:

A degree in Food Science is required, with a BSc in Food Technology preferred. The successful candidate will have 5 years of experience in a related field, with strong analytical skills, ingredient and equipment sourcing, approval, procurement, product costing, and product development experience.

Additionally, the candidate should have knowledge of HACCP and food safety legislation, good interpersonal relationships and strong communication skills, be self-motivated, disciplined, ethical, and confident, and have excellent organisational and work planning skills, attention to detail, and a results-driven approach.
