Avocado Orchard Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Avocado Orchard Specialist to join our team at Westfalia Fruit.

The Avocado Orchard Specialist will be responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of our research orchards, ensuring optimal growth conditions for avocado and mango cultivars.

This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. The Avocado Orchard Specialist will oversee orchard establishment, irrigation scheduling, fertilization, pruning, harvesting, and pest/disease control.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee orchard establishment, irrigation scheduling, fertilization, pruning, harvesting, and pest/disease control.
• Manage irrigation pump houses, storerooms, and farm equipment.
• Ensure accurate recordkeeping and adherence to research protocols.
• Interpret research maps and standard operating procedures while collaborating with multiple research teams.
• Supervise a small team of research assistants and oversee staff development.
• Travel regularly within a 100km radius for orchard management, with ad hoc national trips from time to time.
• Maintain Health & Safety standards (ISO) and ensure compliance with farm regulations.
• Plan and manage resource allocation.

Requirements:

• BSc in Agriculture/Horticulture or a related field (MSc is advantageous).
• 3+ years of experience in agriculture, preferably tree crop production.
