We are currently seeking a Project Manager in Johannesburg who is self-motivated and focused on establishing Turner & Townsend as the leading consultancy in the industry. Reporting directly to the head of the business unit, the successful candidate will be tasked with project delivery, client acquisition, and the promotion of Turner & Townsend's core values.

As a Project Manager, you will join our Johannesburg Infrastructure team to provide services that assist our clients in formulating strategies for successful business solutions prior to project approval, ensuring effective project management and control, and facilitating knowledge transfer.

Role Responsibilities

Project Managers oversee commissions of varying scales and complexities, including providing guidance on specific project management functions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Offering strategic advice during the programme identification and definition phases, including the development of the Programme Brief related to the Sub-programme/Workstream.
  • Providing strategic-level advice during project conception, ensuring alignment with the client's overall objectives.
  • Determining project phasing, sequencing, and interdependencies, along with the necessary management and logistical arrangements for successful Sub-programme delivery.
  • Establishing the procurement strategy for the programme and confirming the availability of all resources required to meet client expectations.
  • Leading and directing project managers responsible for the delivery of projects within the Sub-programme, coordinating with the programme office and specialists as necessary.
  • Defining overall success criteria for projects, including time, cost, technical, and performance parameters.
  • Managing quality, safety, health, and environmental considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establishing effective project governance, processes, and systems for project execution.
  • Ensuring the creation of detailed project plans and advising on resource procurement.
  • Facilitating the cross-functional project team to achieve project objectives.
  • Monitoring performance management techniques, utilizing KPIs to enhance project outcomes.
  • Overseeing the change control process and advising on project finances.
  • Managing communication flow between the project team and the client through regular meetings and documentation.
  • Producing formal project progress reports and other relevant documentation.
  • Engaging with clients and other consultants throughout all project phases.

Business Development and Marketing

  • Developing new business opportunities with existing and prospective Turner & Townsend clients.
  • Identifying and acting on cross-selling opportunities.
  • Collaborating with Associate Directors and Directors to prepare bids for new projects.
  • Participating in formal client presentations alongside Assistant Directors and Directors.
  • Maintaining up-to-date project case studies, photographs, and CV files.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance project management products and services.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Project Management or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred registration with a professional body as a Professional Project Manager.
  • Demonstrated industry knowledge and exposure.
  • Experience in programme management and enterprise programme management.

Additional Information

As a Project/Programme Manager, you will be responsible for various service streams, including Project Resourcing, Best Practices, Knowledge Management, Tools & Systems, Key Account Management, Service Opportunity Identification, and Service Development. You will actively promote the interests of Turner & Townsend, leveraging your expertise and skills across all business initiatives.
