Job Title: Blood Transfusion Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Blood Transfusion Specialist to join our team at the South African National Blood Service.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional to work in a dynamic environment, performing routine testing functions (manual and automated) in blood banks. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of tests, as well as maintaining equipment and instrumentation in good working order.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. A high level of attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential for this role.

Suitably qualified candidates will have completed a National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology or a related field. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Biomedical Technician/Technologist (Blood Transfusion) is mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine testing functions (manual and automated) in blood banks, including compatibility, post-natal and preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.
  • Maintain equipment and instrumentation in good working order, reporting any defects to the Supervisor.
  • Conduct daily cleaning of work areas, cold rooms, fridges, freezers, and all blood banking equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Check weighing of waste by the waste disposal company.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology or a related field.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Biomedical Technician/Technologist (Blood Transfusion).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
