We are seeking a highly skilled Futures Strategist to join the Institute for Futures Research at Stellenbosch Business School. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that produces high-impact, long-range research and facilitates conversations about the implications for business, government, and society in South Africa and beyond.

About the Role

As a Futures Strategist, you will play a key role in conducting futures research, designing approaches and selecting appropriate tools and techniques for commissioned research projects. You will also contribute to the compilation of tender packs and grant proposals, manage the quality of outputs of research associates, and make presentations and facilitate futures thinking sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting futures research to identify trends, drivers, and emerging issues
  • Designing and implementing approaches and selecting appropriate tools and techniques for commissioned research projects
  • Contributing to the compilation of tender packs and grant proposals to secure funding for research projects
  • Managing the quality of outputs of research associates and ensuring timely delivery of project results
  • Making presentations and facilitating futures thinking sessions with senior management and other stakeholders
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Master's degree in futures studies or a related field
  • At least three years' experience in consulting and advisory roles, preferably with senior management
  • At least three years' experience in a research environment, preferably with a focus on futures studies
  • Experience in executive education, training, teaching, and presentations to senior management
  • A proven record of publications in reputable, reviewed domains, including academia or industry publications
Desirable Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications would be advantageous:

  • A PhD in a relevant field
  • Experience leading research projects and managing grants
  • Exposure to work in other African countries and international consulting experience
What We Offer

In return for your expertise and dedication, we offer a competitive salary range of R750,000 - R1,200,000 per annum, depending on experience.
