Old Mutual Bursary Programme Overview

The Old Mutual Bursary Programme is a comprehensive support system designed for exceptional South African learners pursuing a career in Chartered Accounting. This programme offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in accounting, while also gaining valuable work experience and networking opportunities.

What the Bursary Offers

The bursary programme provides financial support for tuition, study materials, meals, accommodation in residence, and return flights home (if studying outside of your hometown). You will also receive comprehensive support during university, including personal development opportunities, vacation work, and guaranteed employment post-graduation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must have applied/be studying at one of the following universities: Nelson Mandela University, North-West University, Rhodes University, Stellenbosch University, University of Cape Town, University of Fort Hare, University of Johannesburg, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, University of Pretoria, University of South Africa, University of the Free State, University of the Western Cape, or University of the Witwatersrand.
  • You must be committed to enter the Old Mutual CA Training Programme and work for the company after graduation.

Matric Students Requirements

If you are a Matric student, you must:

  • Have completed Matric or be currently in Matric.
  • Not have a post-Matric qualification.
  • Be under the age of twenty-one.
  • Have at least 70% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy).
  • Have at least 60% for English HL or 70% for English FAL.
  • Have at least 70% for all other subjects.
  • Be committed to enter the Old Mutual CA Training Programme and work for the company after graduation.

University Students Requirements

If you are a university student, you must:

  • Be under the age of twenty-five.
  • Obtain at least 60% on the core modules: Financial Accounting, Taxation, Management Accounting, and Auditing.
  • Obtain at least an overall average of 60% for all modules.

Skills and Education

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting and finance, with a passion for developing their skills and knowledge in this field. A high school diploma in accounting is required, and a strong academic record is essential.
