This Assistant Retail Manager role offers a fantastic opportunity to join our client's team in Polokwane.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the retail manager in the daily operations of the store, including supervising employees, communicating with customers, and carrying out directives given by the retail manager.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Cash Handling and Administration:
    • Prepare floats, distribute them correctly, and prepare paperwork as per HQ financial process.
    • Conduct daily banking, consolidate previous night's cash, and prepare paperwork accordingly.
    • Be prepared for stock bank vault collection and assist cashiers with cash drops.
    • Allocate change as requested and perform a cash up at the end of every shift.
    • Correct cashier mistakes with consent from the retail manager.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Administer old stock write-offs, stock transfers, and check receipt invoices against orders.
    • Send invoices through to GRV, follow up on GRV cycles, and issue purchase orders.
    • Handle transfer requests from HQ, update the IQ system, and make payment requests for general store management.
    • Maintain weekly filing, create, update, and maintain records and databases.
  • People Management:
    • Match attendance registers against biometric systems and print for sign-off.
    • Assist with HR-related queries, leave requests, and forward them to HR after authorization.
    • Order uniforms and PPE for staff, recruit staff as per the retail manager's instruction, and manage casual payments.
    • Report and administer IR-related issues in conjunction with HR.
    • Set up weekly cleaning schedules.
  • General Duties:
    • Open the shop every day, ensuring safety procedures are met during the daily walkabout.
    • Conduct daily lock-up and alarm activation, perform price checks, and correct errors when necessary.
    • Resolve customer queries, maintain canteen upkeep, and stand-in for the retail manager when required.
    • Check fridge temperatures and report maintenance issues to HQ.
    Requirements:
    • Educational Background:
      • Grade 12 with post-matric certificate or diploma will be advantageous.
      • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand Afrikaans & English.
      • Computer Literacy.
    • Knowledge / Skills:
      • Administration experience of at least two years.
      • Ability to deal with a varied group of people.
      • Forklift license will be advantageous.
      • Operational Agility with a problem-solving mindset.
      • Ensure Vision, Mission, and Values underpin all activities.
      • Ability to show initiative.
      • Ability to work as part of a team.
      • Self-motivated and reliable.
      • Performance-driven.
      • Well-organized.

The salary for this position is between R 10 000 – R 16 500 (depending on experience).
