Procurement Strategist

Job Overview

• The Senior Procurement Officer will be responsible for procuring non-stock surface materials within the plant environment, leading strategic sourcing initiatives, managing supplier relationships, and optimizing procurement processes to ensure cost-effective and timely acquisition of critical materials.
• This role is critical in ensuring the efficient procurement of non-stock surface materials, which are essential for the operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead strategic sourcing initiatives for non-stock surface materials.
• Manage and develop strategic supplier relationships.
• Compile and administer complex, high-value tenders in mining and processing plant environments.
• Optimize procurement processes to maximize cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct local, international, and low-cost country sourcing.
• Utilize integrated MRP systems for demand planning and procurement.
• Develop and maintain procurement strategies aligned with plant operational requirements.
• Conduct supplier performance evaluations and risk assessments.
• Negotiate contracts and manage procurement budgets.

Working Conditions:

• Office-based with frequent plant site visits.
• Potential travel for international sourcing.

Reporting Structure:

• Reports to: Plant Procurement Manager.
• Supervises: Procurement Support Staff.

Education Requirements:

• Diploma (NQF 6) in Supply Chain Management or Procurement Management.
• Advantageous: Advanced Diploma or Degree (NQF 7) in Supply Chain Management or Procurement Management.

Experience:

• 5-10 years in compiling and administering complex, high-value tenders in mining & processing plant environments.
• 3-5 years of strategic sourcing experience (local, international, and low-cost countries).
• 3-5 years of experience with integrated MRP systems and demand planning.

Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of procurement strategies.
• Proficiency in MRP and ERP systems.
• Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
• Analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and procurement software.

Estimated Salary Range:

$70,000 - $100,000 per year.
