About the Role

The incumbent will provide technical expertise and support to the manufacturing plant, ensuring the continuous operation of production machinery with minimal downtime. This opportunity offers exposure to the world of Engineering and Mechanical Maintenance in a fast-paced production facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work towards a Zero-breakdown mentality by providing efficient maintenance services to the manufacturing plant and maximizing machine availability and efficiencies through good maintenance practices.
  • Carry out prompt and effective breakdown repairs, planned and routine maintenance.
  • Reduce maintenance costs, including working capital reduction for spare parts, through proactive planned and preventative maintenance of machinery in the manufacturing plant.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team and internal stakeholders to minimize the impact of machine changeovers and resolve breakdowns with minimal production downtime.
  • Ensure product quality and reduce waste by guaranteeing that machines are correctly adjusted and running according to specification.
  • Report machine conditions, performance, spares used, and breakdown details to the Maintenance/Projects Manager.
  • Adhere to Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality standards and company Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participate in project work and new equipment installations, providing support and knowledge.
  • Perform machinery upgrades, modifications, and rebuilds under the guidance of the Maintenance/Projects Manager and Technicians, ensuring accuracy and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Perform lathe, milling, and general machining work where required in the manufacture or modification of machine parts.
  • Conduct HSE inspections and audits as requested.

Requirements

  • Matric and a valid Fitter and Turner Trade Qualification.
  • 3 years' post-trade experience in a manufacturing environment servicing general mechanical equipment.
  • Further qualifications in the maintenance and operation of FMCG, automated production lines, and general mechanical equipment are advantageous.
  • Experience in the maintenance of air conditioning, dust extraction, boiler, cooling water, and compressor systems is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to exercise patience, courage, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills.
