About Us: Tradelink Retail Systems is a leading retail technology company, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Information Security Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg.

The Role: As a Senior Information Security Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring system performance, ensuring all technical infrastructure is running smoothly, and overseeing projects. You will also be responsible for ensuring timely resolution of vulnerabilities and incidents, and aligning technology strategy with business objectives.

About the Job: We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our information security engineering efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Center (SOC) detection, threat analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM), information technology (IT), and operations incident response.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring System Performance: Ensure that all technical infrastructure is running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Project Oversight: Supervise technical staff and oversee projects to ensure they are progressing as planned.
  • Vulnerability Management: Monitor security alerts and ensure timely resolution of vulnerabilities and incidents.
  • Backup and Recovery: Ensure daily backups and necessary data recovery processes are operational.
  • Strategy Alignment: Align technology strategy with business objectives and ad hoc requirements.
  • Crisis Response: Respond to urgent technical crises and ensure resolution.
  • Status Reports: Provide status reports on the IT landscape, including updates on ongoing projects, security posture, and system performance.
  • Team Meetings: Hold team meetings to foster collaboration, address concerns, and facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Project Requests: Review and prioritize project requests from different departments.
  • Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with vendors and partners for service improvements, negotiations, and addressing any issues.
  • Compliance: Review compliance reports and work towards resolving identified issues.
  • GRC Initiatives: Oversee GRC initiatives and ensure adherence to necessary frameworks and regulations.
  • Training and Development: Facilitate training and development sessions for the team to keep them updated with the latest trends and best practices.
  • Budgeting: Develop and assist with the annual budget for the technology departments.
  • Performance Review: Conduct a comprehensive review of the year's performance.
  • Long-term Strategy: Ensure the IT strategy aligns with the organization's long-term strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and develop risk management strategies to mitigate identified risks.
  • Policy Updates: Review and update organizational IT policies to ensure they remain relevant and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Data Privacy Function: Keep abreast of the latest developments in privacy regulations and industry best practices.
  • Data Breach Response: Respond to any data breaches or privacy incidents, coordinating with different teams to manage the situation effectively.
  • Privacy Guidance: Advise various departments on privacy matters, answering queries, and providing guidance.
  • Training Programs: Offer training and awareness programs to employees and other stakeholders.
  • Document Updates: Ensure that all privacy-related documents are up-to-date and readily accessible.
  • Privacy Compliance: Regularly review the organization's privacy policies and procedures to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Compliance Reporting: Report on the status of privacy compliance within the organization.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with different stakeholders, including employees and vendors, to discuss privacy concerns and updates.
  • Privacy Risk Assessments: Perform privacy risk assessments and work on mitigating identified risks.
  • Impact Assessments: Conduct privacy impact assessments when the need arises.
  • Policy Updates: Update privacy policies based on the assessment of recent privacy incidents and regulatory developments.
  • Vendor Review: Review the privacy practices of third-party vendors and partners to ensure compliance.
  • Strategic Plan: Develop and update the strategic privacy plan, setting goals for the upcoming year.
  • Compliance Audit: Conduct a comprehensive privacy compliance audit to identify gaps and areas for improvement.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Center (SOC) detection, threat analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM), information technology (IT), and operations incident response
  • Certifications: Certifications like Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and/or Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) is a plus
  • Skills: Experience in conducting privacy reviews and participating in on-call rotations; In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Privacy Standard; In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Data Handling Standards; Experience in translating Privacy Policies and Standards into effective controls; Ability to collaborate across teams and partner well with people with diverse professional backgrounds
