Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Finance Director to lead our finance function for the African region. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing financial reporting, working capital, budgets, and forecasts while providing strategic business partnering to the organization.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the finance function for a Wholesale Freight Forwarding business, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and costing.
  • Submit timely and accurate monthly management reporting packs in accordance with agreed timescales and International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Work with key stakeholders to set budgets and forecasts in all areas of Exports, Imports, Express, Perishables, and Warehouse Services.
  • Ensure the Internal Control environment is best in class, meeting Internal audit standards, by modifying current controls and reconciliations to fit with the new system.
  • Manage all administrative functions, including taxation and insurance, with support from the global head office team.
  • Collaborate with local HR to ensure payroll controls are appropriate and payments are processed timely and accurately.
  • Contribute to the evolving strategy of the business for the region, adding valuable insight financially and through new business ideas, aiming to achieve and exceed budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide analytical, strategic, and financial support for all new business prospects, preparing and presenting business cases, and understanding key financial metrics supporting a favorable business case.
  • Assist in analyzing potential acquisition targets and, where required, lead on the due diligence process, supported by Central Finance.
  • Experience in working with sales on pricing and setting marginal pricing.
  • Support the Sales team in providing customer and product data, monitoring commercial performance and targets.
  • Maintain tight controls over working capital and cash flows, actively managing trade receivables to achieve day's sales outstanding (DSO) targets.
  • Prepare accurate weekly profit flash reports, forecasting the month's result, and weekly cash flow forecasts.
  • Review and manage the reconciliations of all General Ledger accounts monthly.
  • Manage and control foreign exchange transactions, monitoring banking transactions daily.
  • Complete timely and accurate Head Office requests.
  • Responsible for the year-end audit and annual statutory accounts.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • CA(SA), ACA, or CIMA qualification is a requirement.
  • Demonstrable post-qualification experience in a corporate accounting environment.
  • Experience managing accounting functions in a multi-site business is preferred.
  • Experience in Freight Forwarding or a similar business is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to build good business relationships with all customers.
  • Exposure to Business Partnering and M&A is preferable.
  • Experience in implementing new systems is an advantage.
  • Strong Excel skills are essential, and familiarity with OneStream/Sun systems and TMFF - BluJay is an advantage.
  • Ability to support regional management with business growth initiatives and efficiency/cost improvements.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, with a flexible approach to working practices.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Flexibility to travel, and at times, at short notice, with potential overseas destinations.
