Job Summary:

The Yard Operations Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the yard, including the management of trucks, equipment, and personnel. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist trucks, owned and third-party vehicles, while they reverse in the yard and between the mill and rigger, ensuring no vehicle is allowed to reverse without assistance.
  • Monitor the loading and offloading of trucks, ensuring safe practice and keeping pedestrians clear of vehicles and machinery.
  • Control the flow of trucks, maintaining constant communication with security.
  • Ensure man and machine separation where possible.
  • Control vehicles and space allocated for them when parked overnight, minimizing disturbance to normal operations.
  • Manage the pallet area and pallet requirements for the rigger.
  • Manage the waste area, ensuring wastebins are emptied when needed.
  • Apply the FIFO method when pulp is moved from the rigger to the fitter for consumption.
  • Ensure safe stacking of pulp in the yard area and designated areas, conducting daily checks (twice a day) to ensure safety.
  • Maintain optimal housekeeping in the yard area.
  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting in resolving customer issues.
  • Supervise customer and company staff in all yard operations.
  • Monitor loading of materials to ensure safe transfer to other stores.
  • Coordinate with other departments, investigating accidents and identifying the root cause of damage.
  • Liaise with security, assisting with CCTV investigations and compiling evidence for accidents and incidents.
  • Ensure wadding is shipped from the factory to the rigger as soon as possible, with trucks loaded and offloaded promptly.
  • Ensure truck drivers and material handlers adhere to all safety rules, familiarizing themselves with truck and forklift driver safety rules and enforcing them.
  • Ensure truck drivers adhere to the standard operating procedure in shipping stock from the factory to the rigger.
  • Report any delays immediately.
  • Familiarize yourself with the duties of the receiving supervisor and assist in their absence when required.

CORE MANAGEMENT

The Yard Operations Supervisor will also be responsible for controlling and managing the area and cores received from suppliers and converting, as well as the core stands needed to ship cores back from converting. This includes ensuring core bins are emptied when needed and maintaining neatness in the core area and warehouse.

  • Manage the relationship with the bin supplier.
  • Perform quality checks on cores received back from converting and suppliers, including buy-ins from customers.
  • Manage core selection and issuing of cores to the factory, ensuring reused cores are utilized first and marked each time they are reused to track usage.
  • Communicate with relevant stakeholders and suppliers, requiring new cores when needed to ensure availability and prevent production disruptions.
  • Manage the procurement of cores (buy-ins from customers) and inbound usage from customers, checking and monitoring quality and quantity.
  • Track core usage from converting or buy-ins from customers versus new stock bought from suppliers, including quantity and price per day and month.
  • Assist with other duties assigned to you from time to time.
