Job Description

Sanlam's Personal Lines Underwriting team has a position available for a Policy Wording and Technical Underwriting Specialist who will be based in our offices.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support Personal Lines and Outsourced Business by compiling, updating, reviewing and maintaining policy wordings, endorsements, addendums, terms, conditions, PPR / Disclosure notices etc.
  2. Provide sound claims and personal lines underwriting advice from a legal and underwriting perspective.
  3. Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements within the Personal Lines Underwriting.
  4. Integrate and update existing Underwriting manuals, operational manuals and underwriting guidelines.
  5. Create new underwriting guidelines and procedures if required.
  6. Assist in formulating and signing off underwriting circulars and media articles.
  7. Analyze, interpret, review, recommend and communicate policy wording and endorsement changes to Binderholders and relevant stakeholders.
  8. Support product changes and associated projects.
  9. Align product changes to that of policy wordings and endorsements.
  10. Drive implementation and monitor results.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in Short Term insurance - Personal Lines.
  • Strong technical product underwriting knowledge and proficiency in Personal Lines.
  • Understanding of risk management.
  • A degree in Insurance & Risk Management or similar disciplines would be an advantage.
  • Computer literate with extensive experience in Excel, Word, Acrobat Pro and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the short term insurance legal framework.
