Fitter Job Description

Talent 101 is seeking a skilled Fitter to join our team in a Temp to Perm role. As a Fitter, you will be responsible for crafting and assembling mechanical system components, examining and understanding engineering drawings and plans, and utilizing tools and machinery to create parts needed for mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Craft and assemble various mechanical system components.
  • Examine and understand engineering drawings and plans to determine the specifications and requirements.
  • Utilize tools and machinery to create parts needed for mechanical systems.
  • Employ welding techniques to join metal parts together.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure mechanical systems function efficiently and effectively.
  • Undertake regular checks and repairs to uphold the integrity of mechanical equipment.
  • Identify issues within machinery to prevent or address failures.
  • Swap out faulty or worn parts to maintain or enhance performance.
  • Follow all relevant safety guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Set up new mechanical systems and ensure they are operational.
  • Examine machinery for issues and make necessary adjustments.
  • Develop and follow timelines for regular maintenance checks to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Troubleshoot and identify the causes of machinery malfunctions.
  • Take apart and reassemble mechanical systems for repair or maintenance.
  • Understand and follow technical drawings and plans for equipment assembly or repair.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, as well as devices for measuring components accurately.
  • Uphold all safety and regulatory standards in daily operations.
  • Work alongside other maintenance professionals to enhance plant operations.
  • Effectively convey information regarding maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Document all repair work, replacements, and inventory of parts to track maintenance activities.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and a Mechanical Engineering Degree/Diploma.
  • 5 years relevant experience in a related role within the food manufacturing environment.
  • Fitter Trade test.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and high-performing environment.
  • Previous experience in an FMCG or food manufacturing industry is essential.
  • Ownership of a reliable vehicle is required for commuting purposes.
  • Must be willing and able to work on a shift basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.
