Job Description

This position provides support to the Smelter plant, including the CO Generation plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for first-line mechanical and electrical duties to improve plant reliability, increase equipment performance, and minimize production downtime from unplanned equipment stoppages.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain assets, equipment, and surrounding infrastructure to minimize adverse impact on production.
  • Daily liaison with relevant plant personnel at different levels regarding breakdowns, spares, and equipment.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance support during breakdowns and shutdowns.
  • Proactive approach and perform preventative maintenance on production equipment.
  • Conduct technical evaluations (testing) of equipment.
  • Ensure and maintain a healthy environment, safe operations, and practices.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Grade 12 Mathematics & Physical Science with a minimum E symbol or Technical N2 Mathematics & Science with a minimum E symbol.
  • A minimum of a N2 Qualification with the following subjects: Electrical Trade Theory, Fitting & Machining Trade Theory, Electronics, and/or Engineering drawings.
  • Certified Trade Test Qualification.
  • A valid Code 08 (Code B) driver's license.
  • Two years of post-trade test experience and a sound knowledge of and experience in a heavy industry environment.
