Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Procurement Specialist to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa. As a key member of our Southern Africa & Islands (SAI) Procurement team, you will be responsible for executing sourcing activities related to Fulfilled by Maersk (Warehousing, Distribution, Cold Storage & Container Depots) Product offering, also known as Contract Logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Day to Day Procurement Activities: Manage day-to-day procurement activities, including market engagement, go-to-market execution and analysis, negotiation of contracts and pricing with suppliers, and vendor management for categories such as Third party warehousing & cold storage, Industrial real estate for self-managed sites, Opex and Capex items, Middle and final mile distribution services, and Container depots & related services.
  2. Procurement Category Strategy: Execute the Fulfilled by Maersk (Warehousing, Distribution, Cold Storage & Container Depot) category strategies, guided by the overall Product strategy and informed by market intelligence, spend & supplier analysis and cost saving opportunities.
  3. Sourcing Strategy: Develop and execute Maersk Contract Logistics procurement strategies based on organizational objectives and supply chain management principles.
  4. Customer Tenders: Support Product and Sales with the required input to submit customer tenders timeously.
  5. Global Processes & Teams: Perform responsibilities utilizing global procurement processes and tools, global category management teams, and contract management frameworks to ensure cost leadership, compliance and best in class supplier performance.
  6. Implementation Partner: Support your line manager to implement and drive continuous improvement activities through execution of change management process and best practices.
  7. Travel: Travel within the SAI area self-managed site(s) and supplier locations as per business requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or post graduate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or related areas.
  • Minimum 3 years industry relevant procurement experience.
  • In-depth understanding of best-in-class procurement practices in Warehousing and Distribution.
  • Experience in Warehousing and Transport operations advantageous.
  • Outstanding professional performance.
  • Ability to work independently and with speed.
  • Experience in team and project management driving end-to-end sourcing projects and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Experience in formulating and presenting sourcing strategies and process recommendation to all levels of leadership.
  • Experience in routine category & tail spend management.
  • Strong communication, planning and prioritizing skills to manage work activities efficiently in order to meet deadlines and high-level goals in a complex, fast-paced, highly pressurized environment.
  • Problem solving in a structured and analytical manner.
  • General understanding of finance and accounting principles, and the ability to interpret financial data and apply to decision making.

  • An assertive communication style and excellent stakeholder management skills to navigate externally and across a wide range of internal departments, both locally, regionally and globally.
  • The ability to operate in an environment with often ambitious goals and changing priorities and translating this into tangible deliverables.
