About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and skilled professional to join our team as an Assistant Director of Nursing Professional Development. In this role, you will play a key part in planning, implementing, and evaluating specific components of our Staff Development and Patient Education program.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in nursing, 2 years of experience in Nursing Education and/or Nursing Leadership, and strong communication and leadership skills. A Certified Addiction Registered Nurse (CARN) Certification is also preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan and develop Nursing Service Orientation and continuing education programs for Behavioral Health Services.
  2. Collaborate with Nursing Directors, Clinical Nurse Managers, and Administrative Supervisors to assess nursing staff educational needs.
  3. Develop annual educational offerings with realistic behavioral health objectives based on assessed learning needs, consistent with goals, objectives, and standards of Nursing Service and accrediting/licensing organizations.
  4. Collaborate with the union to provide educational materials and care offerings to our nursing staff.
  5. Serve as liaison to vendors providing in-service education on new equipment used in the clinical setting.
  6. Act as a resource role model and internal consultant for nurse managers, nursing supervisors, and nursing staff members, maintaining and enhancing clinical and educational competency.
  7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Nursing Service staff and other departments.
  8. Collaborate with the Counseling Educator to ensure the Nursing team is up-to-date on CPI, Crisis Prevention, and Intervention Training.
  9. Ensure the Behavioral Health Services Nursing staff is current with all regulatory and clinical training requirements, as well as updates in nursing practice.
  10. Participate in developing, reviewing, and educating annually Nursing Service policies and procedures based on evidence, best practices, and expert communication.
  11. Maintain, review, and evaluate educational record-keeping and reporting systems and modify them as necessary.
  12. Train, facilitate, consult, mentor, and supervise orientees.
  13. Foster a spirit of scholarship, inquiry, lifelong learning, and innovation for self and others.
  14. Maintain relationships with regional professional organizations supporting Addiction and Substance Use Disorder Nursing Service continuing education.
  15. Coordinate student placements, orient students, and organize preceptorships for undergraduate and graduate students.
  16. Disseminate knowledge and skills related to the role, patient population, clinical specialty, and global or local healthcare needs.
  17. Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through dialogue, body language, and actions; reinforce behavioral standards.
  18. Coordinate activities for maintaining educational materials.
  19. Foster a fair and open culture supporting occurrence reporting.
  20. Create and sustain a BHS-specific orientation following general hospital orientation at Andrus Pavilion.
