IT Advisor

The role of Senior Advisor It Johannesburg is to provide strategic design and quality assurance to reduce the risk of the organisation and its clients. This position works closely with the Director of Technology and the IT department.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Function

1. Provide strategic design advice from the outset of any project from an Information Technology perspective.
2. Offer input into best maintenance and operations practices.

Operational Functions

1. Ensure effective results-based management of information technology database systems.
2. Select and implement Knowledge Base System (KBS) to store various decisions/advice made during program implementation.
3. Collaborate with IT Advisor to develop a work plan for IT services.
4. Supervise IT Advisors on ongoing database maintenance and plan upgrades for existing databases as necessary.
5. Work with external consultants to create Management Information System (MIS) to combine all collected data and expose it through a common M&E interface for Management and Project Managers.
6. Partner with project officers, managers, and other stakeholders to understand project objectives and apply new MOU/Guideline into the system.
7. Collaborate with advisors and stakeholders to work on the database development plan.
8. Oversee IT Advisor who maintains database with Finance and Contract Administration Unit to ensure consistency in budgeting vs output/activity planning.

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in IT or Informatics or equivalent qualification is required. A minimum of 5 years post-qualification working experience is also necessary.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

1. Familiarity with NET Framework technology and Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory is advantageous.
2. Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software, critically analyze symptoms, diagnose faults, and take appropriate action on equipment including PCs, printers, multifunction copiers, sound boards, lighting equipment, and networking.
3. Knowledge of hardware components and hardware troubleshooting procedures.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft desktop operating systems and desktop software.
5. Microsoft Active Directory skills including creating, deleting, and modifying user accounts, setting up e-mail, home, and directories.
6. Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP v4 and v6 protocol, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, SMTP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, ICMP, and ability to crimp CAT5e and install wall boxes.
7. Capacity to operate theatre equipment such as sound boards, lighting equipment, and public address systems.
8. Ability to seek solutions to problems using one's own resources.
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
