Job Overview

This role is part of the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, focusing on ensuring the safety and efficient management of the Gauteng Strategic Road Network (GSRN).

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate conditions related to protecting the GSRN in accordance with the Gauteng Transport Infrastructure Act (GTIA), 2001, and other relevant legislation.
  • Compile and review development applications from various stakeholders, including townships, professional consultants, provincial departments, national departments, agencies, municipalities, and the general public.
  • Conduct site investigations to assess the safety of proposed access positions for land use change developments.
  • Render consultation services and respond to enquiries related to land use change and development applications affecting the GSRN.
  • Manage and supervise staff in the sub-directorate, compile monthly technical reports, and assist administrative staff with technical aspects of work.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Transport Engineering, be registered with ECSA as an Engineering Technician, have 3 years post-qualification technical experience, and a valid driver's license.

  • Knowledge of Gauteng Infrastructure Act of 2001, SPLUMA, National Land Transport Act of 2009, and other relevant prescripts.
  • Geometric design and traffic engineering principles, land-use planning principles, transportation planning processes, and associated legal compliance requirements.
  • Research and development knowledge, technical report writing, and computer-aided design applications.
