RPO Recruitment is partnering with a leading mining company in Gauteng to find a highly skilled and experienced Principal Chemist. Our client is committed to delivering excellence in the mining industry and is looking for a talented individual to join their team.

As the Principal Chemist, you will oversee and coordinate all chemical analysis and testing activities related to mining operations. You will play a key role in ensuring the quality of mining products, identifying and resolving any chemical-related issues, and providing technical guidance to the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the chemical analysis and testing laboratory
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for chemical analysis
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the laboratory
  • Oversee the testing and analysis of various mining products, including ores, minerals, and waste materials
  • Interpret and analyze chemical data to determine product quality and make recommendations for improvement
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the laboratory team
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and resolve chemical-related issues
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and best practices to drive continuous improvement in chemical analysis processes
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in chemistry or Analytical Chemistry
  • A PhD qualification in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry would be an advantage
  • Management Development Programme or equivalent
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role within the mining industry
  • Strong knowledge of mining processes, including mineral processing and extraction
  • Experience in managing and supervising laboratory operations
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the laboratory
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
