About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Database Specialist to join our team at Isilumko Staffing in Johannesburg. As a key member of our database management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and consistency of our mainframe IDMS and DB2 database objects.

Your primary focus will be on managing, monitoring, and supporting these critical systems to support mission-critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain business database objects within an IDMS and DB2 subsystem.
  • Perform database tuning to ensure optimal levels of performance.
  • Schedule database maintenance tasks to prevent downtime.
  • Troubleshoot database and DBMS errors and provide solutions to support business needs.
  • Provide input and implement operational and business strategies to ensure ITO governance.
  • Perform database monitoring and notification to ensure optimal data access.
  • Provide design solutions to support initiatives and projects.
  • Participate in disaster recovery procedures and ensure business continuity.
  • Service all incidents, changes, and requests, and meet SLAs.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers for incident handling.
Requirements
  • 8 years of experience in the IT industry, with at least 5 years as an operational DBA in a large corporate environment.
  • Understanding of mainframe operating system concepts and experience in another mainframe discipline.
  • Experience participating in a DR exercise.
  • Minimum of 4 years of working experience on IDMS/DB2 databases.

  • JCL and Mainframe schedulers knowledge.
  • IBM Utilities and editor knowledge.
  • Usage of supplied database toolsets DB2 Tools (Db2 Admin and Spufi) and IDMS supplied and DMLO navigation.
