RPO Recruitment's client, a major food manufacturer, is seeking a highly skilled Tax Accountant to join their team of professionals in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company's tax portfolio, ensuring compliance, and keeping abreast with the latest legislative changes to identify and mitigate potential tax issues/risks. They will also act as an adviser on all aspects of the company's tax position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare annual income tax returns for all SA legal entities within the group.
  • Calculate and submit provision tax returns.
  • Perform the IT14SD reconciliation when filing the annual income tax return.
  • Manage tax year-end and half-year accounting processes for the Group and ensure accurate calculation of income- and deferred tax accounting entries for the companies within the Group and preparing supporting schedules for disclosure purposes in the group consolidated financial statements.
  • Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns and ensure refunds are received timeously from SARS.
  • Liaise with SARS during the monthly VAT verification process.
  • Prepare, submit, and pay monthly withholding tax returns.
  • Prepare and submit the annual country-by-country reporting requirements for the group as a Multi-National Entity Group. (i.e. Master File and Local File)
  • Quarterly monitor transfer pricing compliance for intra-group transactions to ensure profit margins are within the benchmarked range.
  • Prepare and submit annual carbon tax returns and ensure timeous payment of carbon tax.
  • Update the annual carbon tax licenses with SARS as and when required.
  • Advise the business on any new proposed tax legislation and assess the potential impact to the business.
  • Filing and paying of dividend withholding tax returns and security transfer taxes.
  • Engage with tax authorities in SADC countries from time to time to assist the foreign subsidiaries in resolving audit queries.
  • Advise the business on various local and international tax implications that impact the business, including providing guidance on appropriate transfer pricing methodologies for cross-border transactions with related parties.
  • Roll-out training to the business to ensure input VAT is captured accurately on transactional level.
  • Keep up to date with new IFRS being published and determine the tax effect on the Group.
  • Responsible for monthly IFRS 16 lease accounting.
  • This role will also entail some accounting functionalities from time to time.
  • Prepare working papers for disclosure notes for the Group Consolidated Financial Statements.

Requirements

  • CA (SA)
  • MCom Taxation
  • FMCG industry experience
  • Article experience within Audit/Assurance
  • 1 – 4 years post-article experience within tax
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) knowledge
  • Income Tax Act
  • VAT Act
  • International Tax (Withholding taxes and transfer pricing)
  • Carbon Tax Act
