Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Maths teacher who can provide coaching, mentoring, and support to maths teachers to enhance learners' problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and analytical abilities in mathematics.

  • Create a comprehensive professional development program for Intermediate Phase maths teachers that promotes their content knowledge, assessment skills, and effective teaching strategies.
  • Conduct classroom observations to assess teachers' competencies and performance, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Develop innovative teaching methods and strategies that cater to diverse learning needs through short courses, workshops, and one-on-one sessions.
  • Support maths teachers in understanding the curriculum structure, Maths Big Ideas, and progression processes across grades and phases.
  • Evaluate whether planned learning activities meet the needs of learners with diverse abilities.
  • Design and facilitate collective learning activities to promote peer learning and collaboration in small school-based group sessions and larger inter-school workshops.
  • Introduce resources that advance maths teaching and learning.
  • Identify and promote online learning options and webinars that enhance maths education.
  • Support and mentor maths teachers to effectively analyse and evaluate systemic assessment results and design activities to address challenges.
  • Attend regular meetings with the teacher Development Project team members and lead.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification and experience in maths teaching in Intermediate Phase.
  • Programme skills and experience in the education sector.
  • The ability to collect and analyse programme-related data.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English or isiXhosa.
  • Highly effective facilitation and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • A team player with decision-making capabilities.
  • A proactive mindset and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and identify priorities.
  • Effective time management and meeting critical deadlines.

Requirements

  • An appropriate academic and professional education qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Extensive experience in teaching Maths (Intermediate Phase).
  • CAPS curriculum experience.
  • A clear criminal record.
  • A driver's license and own transport.
  • Excellent communication skills in English or isiXhosa.
