C40 Cities is seeking a senior attorney to head our Pollution and Climate Change programme, which aims to drive strategic litigation and advocacy efforts in environmental and constitutional rights-based cases.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental law, experience in managing complex litigation matters, and a passion for social and environmental justice. They will be responsible for leading the programme team, providing strategic direction, and overseeing work with regulators, corporates, and other stakeholders to achieve strategic change and improved practice.
Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of the programme's strategic plan.
- Provide legal advice and guidance on programme activities and initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key partners and stakeholders to advance the programme's goals.
- Manage and oversee the work of programme staff and contractors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelors degree in law or equivalent qualification.
- Admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa with at least 5 years' post-qualification litigation experience.
- Strong knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
- Proven track record of successfully leading teams and managing complex projects.
