About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Casualty Underwriter to join our Commercial Underwriting team at Sanlam. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing specialist underwriting knowledge and expertise in the area of Casualty, Liability, and Accident insurance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines and rating for new products and covers.
  • Provide specialist underwriting input and advice to brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of claims trends and market developments to ensure our offerings remain competitive and relevant.
  • Collaborate with the Specialist Liability Claims unit and Complex Claims Unit to provide expert advice on liability and fidelity claims.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders to ensure excellent customer service and support.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree or comparable short-term insurance qualification.
  • FAIS compliance (minimum of 120 credits in commercial insurance).
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • RE 5 qualification.
  • Minimum of 10 years' insurance industry experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a technical commercial underwriting department.
  • 5 years' experience specifically in Commercial Liability underwriting.
  • Knowledge of Professional Indemnity and Directors and Officers insurance is an added advantage.

  • Excellent technical underwriting skills and knowledge in Liability, Fidelity, and Group Personal Accident (GPA).
  • Ability to simplify complex legal and insurance terms into plain language for staff and consumers.
  • Advanced numeracy skills and ability to statistically analyze information and data.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to create clear and concise reports and documents.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
