Reinsurance Actuary Position

Are you a qualified Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa? Do you possess substantial experience in the actuarial re/insurance sector?

Aon Re Africa is seeking an Actuary to join our Analytics division, operating on a hybrid work model. The primary responsibility of the Reinsurance Actuary is to deliver optimal reinsurance strategies for clients by offering analytical support to both the broking teams and clients.

Daily Responsibilities

- Gather and analyze pertinent data from clients to identify trends, patterns, and irregularities.

- Develop, test, and implement models tailored to the client's existing frameworks and various proposed alternatives.

- Engage in ongoing discussions and evaluations of results with Analytics and Broking teams.

- Participate in client meetings and presentations, focusing on the analytics segment of the broker's presentation.

- Collaborate closely with brokers and/or clients to identify, investigate, benchmark, analyze, and resolve ad hoc client challenges (e.g., claims data, system enhancements, regulatory changes, etc.).

- Maintain consistent communication with key clients through both formal and informal channels.

- Provide clients with timely updates on information that may affect or interest them, such as technical and market advancements, surveys, etc.

- Identify needs or gaps where existing tools, models, and processes can be improved or developed.

- Continuously monitor the environment for best practices and enhanced methodologies.

- Create and refine templates for standardized reporting.

- As necessary, develop or enhance tools for pricing, benchmarking, and reporting.

- Document high-level processes and train colleagues on the utilization of tools.

- Interpret modeling outcomes and integrate them into a broader analytical framework.

- Assist the Executive Head of Analytics in managing the Analytics team as required.

- Embrace and adhere to the Aon Leadership Model while taking ownership of personal growth.

Qualifications and Skills for Success

Required Qualifications:

Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (or equivalent) Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience FAIS registration and compliance is advantageous.

Knowledge Base:

Understanding of climate change and natural peril modeling is advantageous. Proficiency in VBA, Python, and R coding is beneficial. Familiarity with ReMetrica or other Dynamic Financial Analysis software is advantageous.

Skills and Attributes:

Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and effective problem-solving capabilities. Strong internal and relationship-building skills. Exceptional personal organization and self-management abilities.

Professional Experience:

Proven track record with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in an actuarial re/insurance environment. Preferably 3 to 5 years of experience in short-term re/insurance. Consulting experience is preferred. Management and mentoring experience is advantageous.
