Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Fitter

IntelliStaff is seeking a skilled and reliable Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for attending to breakdowns, conducting repairs, and performing preventive maintenance on plant equipment across two locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Breakdown Repairs: Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on plant equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and plant equipment, including pumps, motors, conveyor systems, and other mechanical systems.
  • Equipment Installation & Modifications: Install and commission new equipment as required, and make modifications and improvements to existing machinery and systems to enhance performance, efficiency, and safety.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment, and comply with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations during maintenance activities.
  • Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used, and report on breakdown trends, maintenance needs, and any issues that may affect plant operations to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with the operations team to schedule maintenance activities and minimize disruption to plant operations, and assist in training other team members on proper maintenance procedures and best practices.
Requirements:
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and plant equipment, and the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults in industrial machinery.
  • Flexibility & Travel: Must have reliable personal transport to commute between the two plant locations in Johannesburg and Donkerhoek, and be willing to work on-call or outside regular working hours in the event of urgent breakdowns.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety standards and practices in a plant maintenance environment, and the ability to work in compliance with safety regulations, ensuring a safe work environment for all.
  • Problem-Solving & Efficiency: Excellent troubleshooting skills with a focus on efficient and effective solutions to mechanical issues, and the ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks to minimize downtime.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to report issues, complete maintenance logs, and collaborate with team members.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum Qualification: Trade Qualification in Mechanical Fitting or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with previous experience working with plant equipment, including pumps, motors, and conveyors.
  • Licenses: Valid drivers license and reliable personal transport.
