Position Overview
The University of Pretoria is seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Clinician to fill a key role in our small stock flock health program, focusing on research, teaching, and clinical practice.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary clinical work, particularly in ruminant herd health aspects, and a demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
ResponsibilitiesDeliver high-quality clinical services through the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital and surrounding community.
Develop and teach educational programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students in veterinary and veterinary nursing fields.
Engage in research and publication activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in small stock flock health.
Network and collaborate with key stakeholders, including industry partners and the broader community.
Assume administrative responsibilities as delegated by the Head of Department.
Requirements
- A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
- Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a Veterinarian;
- Postgraduate training and/or experience in small stock flock health management;
- A minimum of three years' veterinary clinical experience predominantly in Ruminant medicine and Flock health aspects;
- Evidence of continued professional development or education.
Desirable Qualifications
- An MMedVet-degree and/or equivalent specialty board certification in Ruminant medicine particularly in Small stock field;
- Registration with the SAVC as a specialist;
- Minimum of five years' veterinary clinical experience with at least three years' experience in predominantly Ruminant medicine and Flock health aspects;
- At least two full peer-reviewed papers in an accredited scientific journal as author or co-author.
