Job Description:

As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and safety of medication dispensing. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Compounding, manipulating, or preparing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
  • Manufacturing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to formulas and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
  • Re-packaging medicines.
  • Distributing and controlling stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to, and including, Schedule 6 according to instructions from authorized personnel.
  • Reading and preparing prescriptions; selecting, manipulating, or compounding medicines; labeling and supplying medicines in appropriate containers following prescription interpretation and evaluation by a pharmacist.
  • Accurately interpreting scripts and acting professionally and responsibly within legal requirements as per the South African Pharmacy Council.
  • Capturing script details accurately and verifying patients' details on the system.
  • Ensuring accurate picking/packing/labelling and checking of medication and being aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions.
  • Providing accurate instructions to patients regarding the correct use of medicine supplied.
  • Maintaining knowledge of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
  • Ensuring all medications are checked for accuracy by and signed by a pharmacist.
  • Advising and assisting patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop.
  • FOLLOWING UP WITH PATIENTS REGARDING SCRIPT TRACKING REPORT AS REQUESTED BY THE DISPENSARY MANAGER AND FOLLOW UP ON APPOINTMENTS.
  • Explaining medical aid costs to patients.
  • Providing information to individuals to promote health.
  • Processing paperwork necessary for submitting accurate claims to medical aids.
  • Correcting errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.
  • Ensuring authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Maintaining customer profiles on the system.
  • Merging profiles locally and UCS should be notified to merge profiles centrally.
  • Taking note of any message on the customer profile and taking suitable action.
  • Reporting on low/out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Receiving dispensary stock in accordance with Dis-Chem's SOPs and merchandising according to FEFO.
  • FACILITATING BI-ANNUAL STOCK TAKES.
  • Exercising stock, cash, and asset control.
