Job Title: Tape Edger

Please note that this position is based in the Northern Suburbs.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Operate or tend a tape edge machine to join, reinforce, decorate or perform related sewing operations in the manufacture of foam and mattresses. Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread or machine malfunctions.
  • Operate a sewing machine to stitch rolled edges of filled and tufted mattresses to reinforce their boxlike shape, or to stitch padding and fabric covering around innersprings used in mattresses.
  • Position mattresses on tables and adjust machines according to the thickness of the mattresses.
  • Roll and insert mattress edges under machine needles, start machines, and guide edges under needles as machines travel slowly around tables.
  • Place innersprings on tables and spread felt or foam rubber padding and covering over springs.
  • Insert edges of covering and border panels under needles and tape feeds of machines and guide tape and edges under needles to join them as machines travel slowly around tables.
Requirements:
  • Matric and/or NQF3 minimum.
  • At least 3 years of experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Time-oriented.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work under pressure.
