This role offers a unique opportunity to join our Government Relations and Public Policy team, focusing on key markets in Southern Africa. Your key responsibilities will include:
- BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS: Establish strong connections with local governments, NGOs, academia, think tanks, and other stakeholders in Southern Africa and selected Sub-Saharan African markets to support TikTok's growth.
- PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY: Collaborate with policymakers, think tanks, private sector partners, and NGOs on issues like data protection, privacy, safety and security, intellectual property, e-governance, content policy, and technology-relevant public policy concerns.
- STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: Develop and execute advocacy / policy campaigns in relevant areas that impact TikTok, building long-term relationships with local partners.
- INTERNAL ADVISORY: Advise internal teams on emerging public policy matters in Southern Africa and SSA, helping shape strategic plans aligned with respective governments' regulations and policy frameworks.
- EMERGING ISSUES: Identify significant policy issues in these markets, engaging with stakeholders and experts on topics of importance.
- RISK MANAGEMENT: Monitor political and social events in SSA, working with local teams to mitigate operational risks.
- EXTERNAL ENGAGEMENT: Be an external advocate for TikTok's policy positions, promoting local communities' understanding of our platform.
Key Qualifications:
- A Master's degree or equivalent practical experience, preferably in law or public policy.
- Experience managing public policy and/or government relations, advocacy work, and government/private sector partnerships.
- Strong judgment, persuasive and lobbying skills, creativity, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- A deep understanding of Southern African and SSA content markets, as well as the technology sector.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge of the region's political system, environment, and institutions, along with cultural awareness.
- A solid network and relationships with policy-makers, academia, civil society, and the tech industry in Southern Africa.
- An interest in emerging technologies and public policy work.
