Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Strategist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial reporting function, providing sound financial advice, and ensuring that stringent accounting processes and controls are in place.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial reporting, including Balanced Scorecard, Treating Customers Fairly (TCF), and Risk Business Management.
  • Budgeting and forecasting for New Business Volumes, Profit, Value of New Business (VNB), Return of Group Equity Value (ROGEV), and Expenses.
  • Translating the impact of financial decisions into business impact on Equity Value (EV), VNB, Profit, and other measures.
  • Expense tracking, management, and reporting, including providing input into the cost allocation model and maintaining the unit cost.
  • Optimizing and influencing cost efficiencies.
  • Supporting and developing accounting solutions and standards.
  • Assisting with implementation of strategies and projects.
  • Proactively engaging with SLS Finance colleagues and driving plans to ensure successful implementation.
  • Ensuring effective controls and procedures are in place, and adhering to approval frameworks.
  • Liaising with all internal and external stakeholders, including Actuarial, IT, Shared Services, and auditors.
  • Proactive detection and management of risks.
  • Identifying BI opportunities to drive informed and data-driven decisions in the business.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant insurance reporting experience.
  • Solid knowledge of the Sanlam financial reporting systems.
  • An understanding of actuarial calculated profit, value of new business (VNB), and equity value (EV) principles.
Salary

The estimated salary for this position is R1,200,000 - R1,500,000 per annum, depending on experience.
