Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Instrument Mechanician to join our team at Sappi in Mpumalanga, South Africa. As an Instrument Mechanician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of our instrument installations and DCS equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instrument Installation and Maintenance: Install, commission, modify, and maintain instrument installations and DCS equipment to meet Engineering and Production standards.
  • Process Control Optimization: Optimize process control systems (DCS) through loop tuning and fault-finding to ensure performance requirements are met.
  • Instrument Repair and Calibration: Repair and replace defective instruments using appropriate hand tools, and reassemble and calibrate readings to ensure accurate function according to standards.
  • Maintenance Records: Record calibrations, parts used, and maintain inventory of spare parts.
  • Documentation: Prepare schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to document changes made to instruments, circuits, and systems.
  • Team Support: Perform assigned duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
  • Safety and Compliance: Understand and adhere to Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) requirements, investigate incidents, identify root causes of non-conformances, and maintain workplace cleanliness.
Requirements
  • Education: Possession of a Recognized Instrumentation Trade Certificate accredited by Manpower or SETA.
  • Experience: Preferably, a minimum of 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience, with a strong emphasis on instrumentation fault finding within an industrial setting.
  • Skills: Experience with Profibus would be advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is R850,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits, including medical aid, pension fund, and generous leave entitlements.
