Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Service Technician to join our team at ESG Recruitment.

About the Role
  • This is a field-based position, requiring frequent travel to customer sites to perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for attending to equipment breakdowns, performing service and repairs, and providing technical support as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Field Service: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment at customer sites, both on surface and underground.
  2. Equipment Breakdowns: Respond promptly to equipment failures, diagnose issues, and implement effective solutions.
  3. Commissioning: Commission new or refurbished equipment at customer premises, ensuring seamless integration and minimal downtime.
  4. Training: Provide training on supplied equipment to customers, either on-site or in the workshop.
  5. Assembly: Assemble new equipment according to manufacturer's instructions and industry standards.
  6. Service Agreements: Execute service agreements with customers, including maintenance and inspection of their equipment.
  7. Workshop Operations: Receive equipment at the workshop, perform issued work instructions, and conduct audits and inspections.
  8. Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and troubleshooting on customer equipment at the workshop or site.
  9. Spare Parts and Quotations: Assist with spare parts procurement and workshop job quotations.
  10. Deliveries: Assist with equipment and spare parts deliveries to customers and suppliers.
  11. Product Promotion: Promote products and services to customers in support of sales personnel.
  12. Safety and Compliance: Work safely, adhering to applicable policies, procedures, and standards.
  13. Exhibitions and Marketing: Provide technical support at Company exhibitions, open days, and other customer-focused marketing activities.
  14. Product Development: Actively participate in ongoing product development and improvement.
  15. Overtime and Shift Work: Be prepared to work overtime to attend to customer breakdowns and may require shift work.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Mechanical, heavy diesel, electrical, or hydraulic trade qualifications or similar.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar equipment mechanical Service Technician role.
  • Preferably extensive experience in the repair and maintenance of hydraulic hammers, pedestal booms, excavators, hydraulic power packs, and rock drills.
  • Ability to understand and follow hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Motivated to learn and possibly pursue further qualifications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Physically fit to work on heavy equipment and in demanding environments.
  • Comfortable visiting underground work sites.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Preference for having your own tools.
  • The right to legally work in South Africa.
