Technical Operations Director for FMCG Engineering

We are seeking a seasoned Technical Operations Director to lead our FMCG engineering operations in Gauteng, Johannesburg. This role is perfect for an experienced professional with a passion for optimizing processes and ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Management
    • Manage and ensure compliance with OSH Act & regulations, National Environmental Management Act, and Coca-Cola KORE requirements for risk and environment.
    • Maintain line management and legal GMR2.1 accountability for all Utility, Service, and Built Environment Functions at the site.
    • Manage and maintain legal compliance as defined by the OSH Act and other relevant legislation.
    • Monitor and improve costs and resource usage with a focus on environmental stewardship.
    • Manage project resources allocated to the site through dotted-line relationships and serve as the point of contact for Project Planning and execution.
    • Ensure legal compliance within the packing hall and other areas through monthly Safety Meetings, weekly walkabouts, system reviews, and participation in weekly engineering meetings.
    • Maintain a safe, healthy, and risk-free work environment for the site.
    • Train personnel at the appropriate level of competence for all machinery on site through training systems and risk assessments.
    • Lead and sponsor the Risk Management Programme for the site.
    Sustainable Development:
    • Drive improvement plans for water and energy usage optimization through improved practices and technology deployment.
    • Promote waste reduction and recycling rate improvement through best practices and technology deployment.
    • Maintain strong leadership, management, and diagnostic abilities.
    • Evaluate risk situations and make decisions on plant operation and mitigating actions.
    • Maintain sign-off authority for procurement decisions based on technical requirements and supplier proposals.
    • Facilitate higher-order problem-solving sessions for engineering-related issues.
    Asset Management:
    • Ensure asset management excellence for daily execution in Utilities and Facilities departments.
    • Implement best practice deployment of asset management for the site, driving GSE scores and talent management.
    • Audit compliance to the asset care programme across site departments.
    Productivity Improvement:
    • Minimize waste and control fixed and variable costs to improve productivity.
    • Optimize processes through continuous improvement opportunities and process capability optimization.
    • Analyze plant reliability performance and recommend improvements.
    • Develop and manage asset care programs and budgets.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8-10 years of technical experience in a leadership capacity in a FMCG engineering environment. A B-Tech/BSc Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical degree and GCC/OSH Act exam certification are required. Experience with SAP maintenance and procurement systems, project management, and interpreting new technology standards is essential.

The salary range for this position is R 800,000 - R 1,200,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
