Job Title: Environmental & Social Impact Assessment Managing Technical Consultant (Mid-Senior Level)

At ERM, we are committed to delivering high-quality environmental and social impact assessments that meet the needs of our clients. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Managing Technical Consultant to join our team in South Africa.

Job Summary

We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual to lead our environmental and social impact assessment projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of lenders' requirements, including the IFC Performance Standards and the Equator Principles. They will also have experience in performing ESIA gap assessments and lenders E&S due diligence assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver or coordinate projects or whole elements of larger multidisciplinary or global projects.
  • Deliver multiple project tasks or components, including support on proposals.
  • Understand the inter-relationships between ERM services and policies and how these are applied within the clients' business model.
  • Establish strong working relationships with clients through project delivery.
  • Contribute to our key local, regional and global clients and support the solutions ERM delivers for their Environmental and Social Governance and related challenges.
  • Make use of effective working relationships within the business unit and participate in global technical communities to ensure strong network of resources.
  • Remaining up to date with external market and client industry trends.
  • Sharing expertise and knowledge within the business unit and/or global practice area.
  • Understanding how work of the project team and or practice community contributes to ERM's success.
  • Adhering to all ERM and client requirements, specifically those related to H&S and governance.
  • Supervising subcontractors during fieldwork, ensuring they comply with ERM's Health & Safety policies and ABC code, and work is completed in line with project scope.
  • Applying client/sector knowledge when carrying out tasks associated with drafting project deliverables and/or proposals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree: Honours/Master's will be beneficial in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in an environmental impact assessment related field.
  • Understanding of, and experience in the application of lenders' requirements.
  • EAPASA registration (or registration status) will be beneficial.
  • Track record of successful delivery to clients.
  • Track record in selling and delivering consulting services to senior client representatives.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • High proficiency with standard industry software tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office suite).
  • Physical and mental requirements include:
  • Ability to communicate frequently with clients and co-workers and share information effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in both office-based and remote environments.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills – both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects simultaneously (sometimes under pressured conditions).
  • Self-motivation with an ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency at planning, directing, and coordinating the work activity of others.
  • Frequent travel by airplane or car as necessary to perform work at other locations.
