Job Title: Commercial Refrigeration Technician

Rory Mackie & Associates is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Refrigeration Technician to join our team. As a key member of our refrigeration team, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our refrigeration lab, ensuring the efficient operation of our refrigeration systems, and providing technical support to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain our refrigeration lab, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Process and interpret test data to compile comprehensive test reports.
  • Design and improve refrigeration systems and components to meet our clients' needs.
  • Ensure swift and efficient product qualification, meeting our clients' deadlines.
  • Manage site testing and data logging programs, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Manage and maintain test equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
  • Lead new Research and Development projects, driving innovation and improvement.
  • Assist with refrigeration design for new products, ensuring they meet our clients' requirements.
  • Do compressor, liquid line component, and controller selections, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Manage setup parameters of refrigeration products, ensuring they meet our clients' needs.
  • Manage technical database for products, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Liaise with consulting engineers and attend site meetings as required, ensuring effective communication.
  • Liaise with refrigeration contractors and provide appropriate technical solutions, ensuring our clients' needs are met.
  • Build strong relationships with contractor partners and provide technical support and training as required.
  • Provide customer and on-site support as required to end users, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Lead and manage certain project warranty processes and supplier warranty claims, ensuring our clients' interests are protected.
  • Provide technical support, answering technical queries and resolving issues.
  • Develop technical specifications documentation, ensuring accurate and comprehensive information.
  • Provide technical assistance to the spares department, ensuring they have the information they need.
  • Design new optimized versions of products in the existing product portfolio for continuous product improvement.
  • Assist management by providing technical solutions and quotations as required, ensuring our clients' needs are met.
  • Prepare engineering instructions, technical manuals, and laboratory tests, ensuring accurate and comprehensive information.
  • Supervise commissioning of new control systems on display cabinets, ensuring they are installed correctly.
  • Source cost-efficient components and materials, ensuring our clients' budgets are met.
  • Requisition special bought-out components that are not in stock, ensuring our clients' needs are met.
  • Assist with engineering change procedures, ensuring our clients' needs are met.
  • Assist with engineering instructions, ensuring accurate and comprehensive information.
Requirements:
  • National Diploma in Refrigeration Technician, Mechanical Engineering, or any related qualification.
  • Valid SAQCC Authorized practitioner's card (Category C-Inspector).
  • Minimum 5 years with hands-on experience and strong fault-finding skills.
  • Preferably 2 years' experience in CO2 Transcritical System Installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Experience in design and application of refrigeration systems.
  • Must be willing to travel often.
  • Computer literate, especially MS Excel.
  • Assertive, detailed, and able to motivate and lead others.
  • Proactive and have the desire to add value in a progressive organization.
  • Ability to work well independently and/or as part of a team.
