Job Title: Senior Fund Accountant - Private Equity

Apex Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Fund Accountant to join our team in Cape Town, Western Cape. As a Senior Fund Accountant, you will be responsible for providing high-quality financial services to our clients in the private equity sector.

About the Role
  • We are looking for an accounting professional with a strong background in private equity fund accounting.
  • Your primary responsibility will be to perform the accounting functions and related reporting deliverables of our PERE clients in line with relevant service level agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Timely delivery of all investor communication and reporting, in line with agreed SLAs and fund documentation.
  2. Respond to and resolve investor queries, with assistance from the team leader where needed.
  3. Manage/facilitate investor transactions, such as capital calls and distributions.
  4. Perform the accounting for investor-related transactions.
  5. Obtain an in-depth understanding of the client's fund documentation and requirements.
  6. Assist with fund payments.
  7. Perform primary fund accounting functions for a portfolio of allocated funds, including cash book processing and preparation of bank reconciliations.
  8. Accounting for standard monthly/quarterly expense and income-related journals in line with supporting documentation.
  9. Calculation of performance fees, carried interest, and equalization as required by fund documentation.
  10. Collation and verification of information from 3rd parties.
  11. Accounting for investment transactions, including review of investment documentation and provision of accounting guidance (where applicable).
  12. Loading deal static data onto the system.
  13. Calculation of investment IRR.
  14. Review investment valuations.
  15. Accounting for investment-related transactions.
  16. Timely calculation and delivery of the fund NAV.
  17. Take responsibility for the preparation and timely delivery of the agreed reporting pack for a portfolio of clients, within agreed timeframes together with any supporting schedules.
  18. Preparation of the annual financial statements and any other required reports, in line with IFRS, Lux GAAP or other accounting standards as applicable.
  19. Preparation of the annual audit file for the auditors.
  20. Take responsibility for managing the audit process on behalf of a portfolio of allocated clients, including setting up the audit timeline together with the auditors, other team members, the client, and other stakeholders.
  21. Facilitating any internal communication and collaboration between Apex departments/jurisdictions.
  22. Resolving any audit queries.
  23. Perform regular client operational calls for an allocated portfolio of clients and provide client feedback to management and the rest of the team.
  24. Liaise and build relationships with other relevant internal teams to ensure a seamless delivery of services to our clients.
  25. Assistance with any other regulatory/internal reporting requirements.
Requirements
  • An accounting qualification (minimum B.Com/Com Accounting or equivalent) or the candidate is working towards his/her qualification.
  • Preference will be given to candidates working towards a professional qualification such as CA(SA), ACCA, or CIMA.
  • 2 years' relevant accounting experience in a similar industry or business type, preference will be given to staff with private equity or real estate experience.
  • An understanding of funds and fund structures will be an advantage.
  • Experience in all aspects of multi-currency accounting.
  • Excellent computer skills, and in particular, a good knowledge of Microsoft Office (2010) including Excel, Word, and Outlook email.
  • Experience with Investran will be advantageous.
  • Highly organized, efficient, and professional with excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • A confident, professional, and enthusiastic approach when dealing with clients and intermediaries of the business.
  • An inquisitive mindset and innovative.
  • Able to communicate clearly with staff and senior management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within the PERE team as well as other departments within Apex.
Estimated Salary Range: R550,000 - R750,000 per annum, depending on experience.
