About the Role

The Environmental Intern is expected to conduct Environmental Impact and Management Assessments, focusing on air and water quality and dust fallout monitoring, including the drafting of technical, regulatory, and related documents, achieved through research, analysis, or fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Scientific Functions: Maintain Data Tables and Statistical Tables, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Generate and maintain Site Reports, Sampling Registers, and Analytical Test Reports for larger quarterly, bi-annual, and annual reports, providing valuable insights for stakeholders.
  • Dust Fallout Monitoring: Conduct regular dust fallout reporting, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Occupational Hygiene: Handle occupational hygiene reporting through swabs, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Water Quality Reporting: Compile short Monthly Information Reports on water quality, highlighting any concerns or issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with relevant environmental regulations and best practices, ensuring Signa Opportunity's compliance.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with project teams to ensure environmental compliance, fostering a culture of sustainability.
  • Risk Assessment: Assess potential environmental risks and develop mitigation measures, minimizing the company's ecological footprint.
Requirements:
  • Education: At least a BSc /BA (Hons) Degree in Environmental Management or a suitable equivalent.
  • Age and Eligibility: South African unemployed youth aged between 18 and 34, with no prior participation in the YES Program.
  • Personal Qualities: Self-motivated, organized, punctual, and honest, with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong scientific reasoning skills and excellent scientific report writing abilities.
  • Administrative Skills: Strong administrative skills, with the ability to work 5 days a week (08:00-17:00) and arrange own transport to and from the customer site in the South Durban area.
  • Behavior and Attitude: A record of good behavior and a positive attitude, with a willingness to learn and grow with Signa Opportunity.
