Job Title: Lead Agronomist - Soil Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Agronomist - Soil Specialist to join our OMNIA Agriculture division. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality solutions to our clients.

Salary:

The estimated annual salary for this position is between R850,000 and R1,200,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Description:

The Lead Agronomist - Soil Specialist will be responsible for managing soil classification projects, creating spatial data management systems, and working closely with our agronomic field team. You will also be involved in remote sensing data management, translating raw data into actionable agricultural solutions, and creating GIS maps.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage soil classification projects, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of results
  • Develop and implement spatial data management systems to optimize agricultural productivity
  • Work collaboratively with the agronomic field team to identify areas for improvement
  • Analyze remote sensing data to inform decision-making and drive business growth
  • Create GIS maps to visualize data and communicate findings effectively
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a relevant field, preferably in soil science or agronomy
  • A tertiary qualification in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or a related field
  • High-level GIS knowledge, including proficiency in ESRI suite (ArcGIS), QGIS, and Google Earth applications
  • Strong understanding of fertilizer crop requirements and agronomic principles
  • Excellent language skills (written and verbal English and Afrikaans)
  • Ability to lead and take initiative in project management
