Job Summary

TCC Engineers at the Georgia Transmission Control Center (TCC) ensure the safe and reliable operation of the bulk electric system. The successful candidate will be developed to provide technical analysis and subject matter expertise in multiple areas.

  • Floor Engineering Support involves managing critical processes and special projects in support of the Area Desk Operators, the management team, and other staff in the TCC to improve efficiencies and provide solutions.

  • Operations planning involves performing the analysis and coordination necessary to study requests required to complete construction and maintenance projects for GPC and other transmission owners in the Georgia Integrated Transmission System.

The position requires knowledge of power system analysis, transmission switching practices, NERC requirements, and facility ratings. The successful candidate will gain extensive knowledge of Transmission System Operations and build strong working relationships throughout Power Delivery, with other cross-functional areas, and with external stakeholders.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Engineering degree with comparable power system experience preferred.

  • Experience in one or more Transmission areas working with an Electric Utility for a minimum of 24 months (36 months preferred).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of power system analysis, T&D switching practices, NERC requirements, and facility ratings.

  • Desired: Experience with operating tools such as STOMP, EMS, TransMap, storm and system alert practices, ITS processes and procedures, Redbook and Section 0.

  • Skilled in Project Management with the ability to coordinate high volumes of complex projects with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Other Requirements:

  • Pass and maintain Critical Infrastructure Protection security clearance requirements. Adhere to FERC Standards of Conduct and Separation Protocol.

  • Role is responsible for storm support and may be asked to work shifts during those events.

  • Georgia Transmission Control Center personnel applying for the TCC Engineer position are required to have a minimum of 24 months (36 months preferred) experience at their current role.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct system operation planning studies using PNA and PSSE to evaluate clearances associated with maintenance and construction projects. Work closely with the prearrange team in the Work Request review process.

  • Provide daily support to the System Operator by performing contingency modeling and analysis as needed and support restoration efforts during storms, Energy Emergency Alerts, and significant system events.

  • Facilitate completion of major maintenance and construction projects by working cooperatively with the generating plants, TMCs, ITS Participants, PCC, and other stakeholders.

  • Provide Floor Engineering Support through reviewing outages, calculating system reliability metrics, providing storm support during high volume events, developing subject matter expertise on various tools and NERC standards, engaging ongoing and periodic projects that enhance operations.

  • Develop and maintain operational plans and guidance for system emergencies, including black-start and manual load shedding procedures and assist with yearly drills.
