Job Description

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is a leading global supplier in equipment, tools, parts, services, and technical solutions for the mining and infrastructure industries.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Vice President: Sales - Southern Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing sales strategies for the region, aligning with Sandvik's overarching strategy and individual divisional strategies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop the Sales Area Strategy for Southern Africa, ensuring alignment with Sandvik's overarching strategy and individual divisional strategies.
  • Provide input into market dynamics that drive business growth for Sandvik.
  • Lead the development of Divisional Sales Strategies through collaboration and consultation with senior management teams.
  • Produce quarterly strategic reports on the Sales Area Strategy to the President of SMR Group.
  • Guide and direct the alignment of sales strategies to market place and approach, ensuring constant alignment.
  • Keep abreast of changing markets and customer needs to maintain a competitive advantage for Sandvik.
  • Lead competence development to ensure staff are fit for business purposes within the Sales Area.
  • Participate in scheduled internal board meetings for each of the entities within the Sales Area.
  • Quarterly strategic reporting with deliverables/KPIs.
  • Sales Area Strategy aligned to overarching Sandvik strategy and SMR strategy.

Sales Area Management:

  • Review and monitor sales performance across Southern Africa and within individual divisions.
  • Ensure senior management are suitably resourced with required tools, equipment, and infrastructure to meet targets.
  • Partner with senior management team to provide guidance on meeting targets and KPIs, amending sales targets and handling escalated blockages.
  • Monitor the market place and manage changes accordingly to meet market requirements in the best interests of the business.
  • Oversee the development of the sales management team to ensure the right people are in the right job.
  • Lead the development of policies for the Sales Area pertaining to pricing, products, mix, and brand portfolio.

Statutory Requirements and Compliance:

  • Participate as a member on the Board of Directors, meeting necessary reporting requirements to the Board.
  • Oversee compliance with local legislation and alignment to Sandvik targets.
  • Guide divisions to ensure compliance to local regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Oversee adherence of SA operations to applicable legislation (i.e., Section 21 of Mine, Health & Safety Act), safety regulations, and internal standards and procedures.
  • Produce reports on non-compliance or exceptions or hazards/incidents, providing necessary action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Represent Sandvik as VP Sales Southern Africa in various forums or ceremonial duties.
  • Full compliance to local regulations and legislation.

Stakeholder Relationship Management:

  • Create a collaborative environment to enhance sales across Southern Africa.
  • Provide leadership in the management of sound business relationships, maintaining business interests of Sandvik, SMR, and individual divisions.
  • Ensure necessary changes to the business take into consideration needs of all individual internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in engagements with local communities and governments as required.
  • Success of the business.

Budget Oversight:

  • Collaborate with Head of Finance and Business Control to measure sales growth and identify early warning signals or financial risks to the sales area.
  • Ensure financial controls are in line with applicable financial legislation and regulations.
  • Review and approve budget forecasts submitted by senior management.
  • Approve expenses in accordance with delegation of authority.
  • Compliance with financial legislation and regulations.
  • Timeous and accurate quarterly budgets.

People Management:

  • Manage recruitment of direct reports (senior management team members) in consultation with Human Resources Department.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports to foster personal growth.
  • Manage performance of direct reports through development of performance agreements and conducting performance reviews.
  • Manage development of Personal Development Plans for direct reports and ensure implementation.
  • Manage enforcement of discipline of direct reports and attend to grievances in consultation with Human Resources Department.
  • Lead development of Succession Plan for Sales Area – Southern Africa, ensuring pool of potential leaders.
  • Drive culture of Sales Area – Southern Africa reflecting organization's global values.
  • Staff turnover.
